EXPLORING MUSICAL INTERSECTIONS
The Pano Hora Ensemble explores musical intersections, most obviously those that occur when Greek musical ideas are featured within a classical ensemble.
Greek music, since Homer, generally has been connected to narrative — irresistible stories of passion, grief, human nature, and its foibles, and the unique suffering brought by familial conflict.
Pano Hora Ensemble seeks to bring to life the music by Charles Calomiris and others so that our audience can resonate with and reflect on all of human emotions and experiences. Stay in touch with us by subscribing to the newsletter.
Gethsemane
This opera exists at the boundary between secular drama and sacred oratorio. It takes place in the hour before Jesus is seized, and explores possible conversations between Jesus and others. Its theme is the radical nature of the idea of sacrificial love. Gethsemane is a time for choosing, a place where creation, joy, beauty, pain, sacrifice, death, and resurrection reveal the loving thread that knits them together.
